Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Noel lives with his wife and daughter in the West of Ireland. He writes epic fantasy, science fiction and horror.

From a young age, he was always writing a book. Generally, the first page over and over. Sometimes, he even reached the second page before he had shredded an entire copybook. And you couldn’t even recycle all that wasted paper back then.

When he finally wrote and published a book, it took him fourteen years. The Golden Rule became two books so let us be generous and say he averaged seven years per novel. He has gotten a little faster since then. Honest.

His hobbies include writing, reading, and reading about writing. He has written about reading in the past, and he occasionally writes about his writing. He would happily stay at home all day writing, but the family dog, Ruby, insists on taking him for daily walks.

His pet hates include writing his biography and referring to himself in the third person.

This novella is absolutely captivating. I fell in love with the cover and the novel was just as pure. As you read it will be up to you to put the pieces together! This is a brilliant read! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention. The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well developed characters and an interesting story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.

I liked the overall story. The writing was engaging and the world building unique but not overly complex. Mr. Coughlan does a good job in conveying the sense of an alternate world, and deftly handles the risk of writing outside of his culture. The only part of the tale that didn't work for me is the ending, which, while a great twist in the abstract, was never once foreshadowed and felt rushed, therefore left me feeling a bit cheated. That being said, I'll read it through again to see if I missed something along the way. It's worth a second read. I've never regretted time spent rereading a good book. Treat yourself.

A really short story that I found for free on Amazon
I liked the setting and the plight of the main character. Characterisation was spot on throughout the story. Writing was very good, solid and with great economy. Well recommended.

Fast paced even for a short story but well worth the read. No Escape is all that is need to Escape.

This story is about a warrior trying to get the infant princess of a fallen people away from soul diviners that hold his blood. He is a coward in his own eyes but this reader found him a hero with no escape.

I loved this story, but it wasn't long enough!

I hope Noel Coughlan will write more about the characters.

I would love to see more of this world. It was an amazing tale of self sacrifice, determination and fighting to live. So many died for one girl to live. The culture was brought in and yet so full. I found the story short but engaging. I am glad there is to be more to the series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Strong writing

3.5 stars! A great world set up in such a short amount of worlds. Nicely paced, well-described, and with an original take on the desert magic themes to boot. Some elements could be repeated, and the twist to the end felt like it could have had some foreshadowing, but otherwise really well-written.
