First let me start by saying this book is not for the faint of heart! Lots of violence, brutality etc but it's an amazing story that keeps you attention from page 1. I'm usually into erotica splashed with a intense story but this is not erotic in the least bit. The book does show how much a person can survive horrific things yet still be strong. When the book ended I gasped not realizing there was a book 2.,, wow looking forward to reading it....

I think, because I have read her work before, that Pepper could have the same results without some of the brutality she details of. I have enjoyed another of her series and absolutely hated two others. However, this has a young woman that reminds me of Tess in the Monsters of the dark series. This was the one I really enjoyed. The indebted series was actually the worst I have read and didn't finish it. Once a myth, Goddess Isles, was so outlandish I didn't go past the first book. I am, so for, interested in the outcome of this series because Pim is so strong and doesn't ever give in! I admire her and although Elder is not a good guy he seems to have insight so I'm going to see how this progresses. Unfortunately Pepper is inconsistent with her books which frustrates me because it seems she is trying to shock us with how much we can take. It's not necessarily a good thing because I love the darkest of dark reads but with a purpose. She is a talented writer and although I am Leary of her motives I hope she can bring us more Peppers and Pim's and less Nila Weaver's like indebted and less medical science fiction as in Goddess Isles. I agree its important not to go overboard with romance because its sex slavery however she does this in other series. Because she's inconsistent with her books I gave this a 4. However, I'm not disappointed because of Pim. My heart aches for her and I am hoping for him also...it's worth reading even though we might disagree with books I didn't like I am glad I'm reading this series because this is why I originally loved her writing in Monsters in the dark...I'm very glad I made this choice.

Pennies tells the story of 18yr old Tasmin, a young girl who gets kidnapped and sold into the sex trafficking world.
This story doesn't detail the SA/🍇 in detail but the torture she endures is pretty explicit. Definitely read the Trigger Warnings before starting this book.
The writing is amazing, you feel and brace for every strike.
You feel every emotion that young Tasmin feels.
You want to provide her with strength to not give up and fight to find a way out.
Just when you think there's no hope for this poor girl a stranger inserts himself into her life, but is he her knight in shining armor or is he just another man that wants to use her for his own pleasure?
Pennies ends with a cliffhanger at a very intense scene, Bravo Pepper Winters!! I know what my next read is going to be....

If you like dark romance in its truest form I highly recommend you read Pennies.

I have read the entire DOLLAR series, not just this book. Because the series is so exceptional, I've chosen to leave my review here at the beginning of the series for benefit of all you who may be influenced to read all the books. Let me say that usually choosing one of Ms. Winters' series or tragic couples as a favorite over another is like deciding which of your children you like better. An impossible task. Yet as much as I love Pepper's writing, I do not love all her books equally, even though I love them all. In this case, I can say unequivocally that this book joins a select few in rising to the top of my favs list.

PENNIES sets the foundation for the tortured and winding path to romance for captive sex slave PIM and her hero lover, the dark and complicated ELDER PREST, a character from a past series. Elder is the unlikely hero who discovers her predicament and rescues her from unimaginable hell. Each book in the series delves deeper into these characters, their relationship,their past and future, and the villains close behind during their slowly evolving love story. Believe me when I say this couple works harder than any previous couple by this author for their chance at an HEA.

The next book HUNDREDS was the hardest for me, as we witness the grotesque brutuality, cruelty, depravity and horrors that have been forced upon Pim for 2 years. There was no way out for her until Elder enters the picture, and when he does and eventually rescues her, it does not mean the end of Pim's woes or fears. You will cringe during this book for sure and some of it feels too hard to take, but stick it out. It will be well worth it. Elder's wealth and protection of Pim then take them on a geographical and emotional journey of healing and situations they never imagined. We even reunite eventually with some of our favorite characters of the past in the latter books.

Pepper's other darkest series -- Monsters in the Dark and The Indebted series don't hold a candle in some ways to the darkness and depravity and personal catharses in this series. It is a completely different experience that never gives us time to stop and take a breath in its relentless and shocking race to conclusion. I kept thinking that Pepper would run out of storyline or stagnate the process, but that never happened. Hands down, the series exemplifies Pepper's finest dark creativity and demonstrates just how organically she can evolve a story without being repetitive. I felt every pebble and tear of this journey and have no desire to give any aspect of it away. Let yourself be swept up in the ruined lives of damaged souls and the healing that comes from love, patience and sacrifice. Read it as I did, completely fresh without spoilers from reviews, and just enjoy the couple's beguiling journey from book to book. I will read this amazing series many times over and wholeheartedly recommend it.

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
This is that old school Dark Romance. If you can’t handle it, whine in some other comment section. That sounds very rude. I’m sorry. Just know that this is a tough story to read. There are no heroes here.

Years ago, when I read the Indebted series, I tried to get into Pennies, but I didn’t feel it. I saw money in the title and I thought it’d be more of the same. FOUR YEARS LATER, I realize how BLOODY WRONG I WAS! I picked this up again after Elder made a cameo in Sully’s Fantasy and I found out that he will have another cameo in Jinx’s Fantasy.
And damn, what a story this was. Our lead girl is a silent warrior queen. She hurts so much in this book. I can’t even start. I want to hug and protect her. I wished for her to stay strong. She had me hooked from the moment she innocently graces that fateful stage… Without too many spoilers, she’s honorable and strong and I PRAYED FOR HER HAPPY ENDING which, knowing Pepper Winters, will take a whole eternity to come. There’s a miniscule of a POS that I won’t even discuss. Then there’s Elder. Mysterious, handsome, vigilant and observant. Who is he? What is his end game? He did so much in this story, but, like our lead girl, I always feared the ‘BUT.’ This story ends with a cliffhanger. It is heartbreaking, but at this point in the novel, your heart has died a thousand times already. I picked up book 2 the next day.
I recommend this to readers that want a story of strength, loss and pain. This is very dark and readers should proceed with caution. This is Pepper Winters at her finest dark moments.

Very boring, lengthy for not much... Too much mysteries, extremely little uncovered on the book. Doesn't even give me the envy to go for the other books. Mystery is great, but too much, or too much hint of something, without justification or reveals. It's bad writing.
Yes she writes ok. But it's useless if she can't give a good story.

Reading it on kindle, I panicked of having put money on that thing. Thank god, it costs me nothing, otherwise, I would have been very upset.
