Book Description

18 year old Melody Jenkins has spent the last 3 years of high school crushing on one guy, Jake Kensington, who sees her as no more than a sister from another mister and best friend. Not wanting to risk their friendship, Melody has kept her crush a secret and her emotions in check whenever she’s around him… which is daily since they live on the same property.

It’s her senior year and she has made it through the past three years of high school with little social psychological trauma. That’s excellent considering she goes to a school in Los Angeles where the majority of the bored students graduating will have executive paying jobs the moment they walk across stage. If all goes well, she will graduate as the Valedictorian with multiple offers from colleges on the East Coast, far away from California.

But when the health teacher announces a “special” project that requires students to be paired and live under the same roof for one week, Melody’s world gets completely turned upside down. She is forced to spend time with someone totally opposite of her and frankly, she can't stand… or so she thought. One night of catching a glimpse of the softer side of Kyle Warner, the school’s most popular and arrogant quarterback, has her heart pounding and her stomach doing flip-flops.

But when Melody shows an ounce of affection toward Kyle, Jake discovers feelings of his own as he tries to protect his best friend from the guy he knows Kyle can be.

As the project comes to an end, Melody goes to homecoming… will it be a night to remember, forget or both?

Be advised, this contemporary Teen / Young Adult Romance story has some strong language and strong sexual connotation.

Hello and thanks for checking out the writer behind the book. I'm a new author. I am attempting writing books in series. This works for me as it creates a set deadline to get stories out to the fans of the story.

I have so many story ideas outlined from when I was in high school. You know, those old black and white composition books... well they are FULL! And STACKED on my shelf. I write because I love it. Never thought in a million years I would find myself sharing them with strangers.

But hopefully, we won't be strangers long. I really love getting reviews. Be it good, bad... even ugly. I take great care in reading each one and literally take what is said to heart. I mean, these stories are my babies! And in order to raise them right, I need help from experienced readers who know a good story when they read one.

Thank you again for visiting my Author's page. I will continue to do my best delivering something new each week. It's my new addiction... I wonder if there is a writers anonymous. I may need a buddy soon! :-)

For starters, this novel is extremely well written. This is obviously a plus because I think there's a number of YA authors out there who try to "dumb" down their prose for the sake of the teen audience. This is something I don't agree with because I believe teenagers are far more intelligent today than most give them credit for. Alora Dillon's writing style allows the reader to make connections in their head about what's going on by showing us facial expressions, body language, etc. This always make the reading experience a lot more fun and entertaining!

The story itself is very sweet. It is not your typical, predictable "insta-lust" tale. We are introduced to Melody, who first of all, is a very accomplished and intelligent young girl (great role model for female teen readers). She has had a crush on her best friend Jake for quite some time now. She and Jake share a bond like no other. He is a well mannered boy who cares for Melody and eventually reciprocates her feelings. However, Melody is very down to earth and really does not really pick up on this at the beginning of the book. Hilarity, and heart warming moments ensue when Melody and Jake participate in a school project that involves being paired up with another classmate. Certain that they will be paired up with each other, Melody's world and grades are put at risk when she gets paired up with Kyle Warner, an attractive, but seemingly arrogant, wealthy athlete. However, not all is as it seems...and Melody discovers that there is always more than meets the eye.

Funny, witty, and very charming, Melody's Crush is a book that I can't imagine anybody not enjoying :)

Welcome Alora Dillon to the YA writing space with "Melody's Crush" , the story of an awkward nerdy girl, who happens to be adorable, and the hot school jock who is assigned to work with her on a school project. You may think "I've heard this story before", but you really haven't. This story is different, the characters are different, their personal circumstances are different, and the school project is just a hoot. The main characters, Melody, Kyle, and Jake are well developed, with personality traits that you will gravitate to. Melody has known Jake all her life, and had a crush on him since "coming of age". A first crush, however, doesn't necessarily mean first love. Melody finds out quickly, that school stereotypes can be an illusion as she is assigned to work with Kyle on a project that requires them spending a lot of time together, as if they were a married couple. Kyle finds out that Melody is smart, but beautiful, beneath the fly under the radar disguise she wears to school so that she melts into the background as a nobody, and that her innocence is intoxicating, her personality adorable, and spending time with her overall addictive. How the relationships between Melody and these two young men change and evolve is very true to what High School is like today from the emotional standpoint. Alora Dillon is an author to watch, she's hitting it out of the park!

***WARNING!!! This review may contain spoilers!***

Awww God, I loved this book! It was cute, funny, amazing, hot and set my blood on fire. Seriously! Is it just me having hormonal issues or did it make your hormones do a happy dance too? God, Kyle and Melody together were just.... wow! Fireworks, sparkles and goosebumps! I loved, loved, loved Kyle! I know I was supposed to be teaming for Jake, the best friend. And I meant to, really. I actually did want him and Melody together for real, at first. Bu then....after that weird morning when he saw her change clothes (and I assure you, I loved that scene! It was hilarious and kind of satisfying seeing him so awestruck and amazed and Melody didn't even realize what she'd done!), he started to annoy me a little more each passing day. Until that friday when the Parental project started. From the moment of the wife&husband picking at school, I didn't like Jake much.
Then I got back to likig him a little, and he was really nice and sweet with Mel, most of the time. But I was already crushing hard on Kyle, so.... although I felt sorry for Jake in the end, and I was hurting with Mel for breaking his heart, I was also hoping for a happy ending with Kyle.
There are a bunch of favorite scenes I'd read and re-read again... such as... that first friday night when Kyle arrived at her house and particularly their wrestling match and Melody's mom meeting the "husband". Or every time Mel almost passed out by drooling too much over Kyle's hotness (and when she actually passed out!). Their almost kiss when Kyle locked her out of her house. Their first real kiss at his house (Wow!). The kiss at the dance, although it was ruined by a b!tch. And finally, finally, the last scene in the end that was hot, sweet, cute and amazing! And how cute and sexy was Kyle (half naked some times) cradling a baby (fake, but still...)!
I didn't expect to like this book so much. I mean, I thought the story would be nice and interesting before starting to read it. But when I started.... I just couldn't stop reading. And I loved it so much!
I want more! I think it was too short. I'll miss Mel and Kyle!

When I read the preview to this book I couldn't down load it fast enough as it grabbed me from the first chapter! Ok I started this book thinking I was a little old to be reading this book but I don't really care how old the characters are so long as the story keeps me reading and that's what this book did and I so wanted more and hated the nearer I got to the end. Lovely written book and I would so like to read more from this author! Not to go into the story much as you need to read it for yourself if you are looking for a sweet and heartfelt story with a lot of quick come backs and genuine fun between characters this is for you! The main character is 17 year old girl called melody who has a crush on her childhood friend but that bond is one way surely? More complications come for Mel in the shape of the star quarter back for her school when forced into pairing with him on a school project which is quite funny! You will have to read to find out how it goes between the three of them but you will be surprised as I don't do love triangles and that slightly put me off but this was original and did not follow the same lines other authors do when writing with 3 main characters so please check it out I'm hoping you won't be disappointed and now onto the next book in Kyles Pov.

Story was a little long, and was a little confusing but the idea was sweet - the whole high school crush thing. Wouldn't recommend it though and wasn't worth buying.

I really enjoyed this book that I read it in less than a day! I was hooked from the very start wanting to know what would happen next and who Melody would choose. At first I was a big Jake fan and wanted Melody to be with him but as the book went on I became a big Kyle fan and ended up liking them both, not knowing who I wanted her to choose more! lol. Overall the story was really well written and Alora Dillon did a great job with it, I can't wait to read Kyle's POV now! :)
