With business so good, he was starting to expand. He was becoming very, very rich. The only small annoyance had come from a little old lady who owned of all things a corner shop. She had refused to accept any of his little parcels and wanted to go to the police, so she’d been given two bullets, the ‘double tap’, both to shut her up and to send a message to everyone else in the network. Unknown to Lee she was married to a specialist, a man who, in a former life killed men for a living. He had two friends, one a gatherer of information, the master in his field, one a breaker of men, who was so vicious that it was rumoured that each time he hit a man he cut him. Each of these three men had spent thirty years and more playing the ‘great game’. Inside the security company called ‘The Firm’ they were legends known only as The Assassin, The Grey Man and The Surgeon. Now living at the edge of the secret world and about to disappear into history, this atrocity had brought them back centre stage but the question is, do they still have what it takes to go up against today’s hard men?

I've read a lot of fictional action novels where the stories had plot holes or the characters did not stay true to their original development. However, D.C. Stanfield has avoided these mistakes with 3 masterful action suspense stories revolving around characters that are almost super-heroes, but are truly human with human frailties. You care about them right from the start. The plots are unique and believable. The planning that goes into the preparation for action is the best and most meticulous of all the stories I've read. I bought the books and the print is small, so if your eyes are weak like mine, these are perhaps best read on kindle. Even with the small print, I just couldn't put them down. I've read the first 2 in the series and am reluctant to read the 3rd because then I'll have no more to look forward to! I don't normally write reviews and would not give 5 stars easily. If you like spy / action / secret ops, Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, Charlie Parker, Jason Bourne - you will love these books.

The book had me at the cover and title but the blurb drew me in.
This book is very well done for a debut. I am a writer and really enjoyed reading this author's work.
He definitely has a talent and the story was very well thought out.
I especially enjoyed the characters and the flow of the work.
The only criticism I have was in regards to some of the editing.
I could tell that editing took place but it wasn't of the highest standard.
I picked up mistakes fairly often over the course of the book and I am not an editor by any
stretch of the imagination. For this solitary reason alone I gave it four stars and not five but to
be perfectly honest I would have given it 4 and a half if I had the opportunity.
DC keep on writing man, you have so much potential that is evident in this work!
I would definitely read another of your books in the future.
I'd recommend a better editor or more editing although like I stated earlier you could
notice that at least a certain level of editing had been completed.
Better then 8 out of 10 debuts out there.

I Loved This Book. I was pleasantly surprised since I had never read anything from this author. Is is a British secret service story very well written and very entertaining. It is kind of a Dave Baldacci "lite" book. I also read the book written after this, To Kill a Grey Man, and it was just as entertaining, I recommend both. Not knowing about The Grey Man, I also purchased two books by another author, JL Curtis, The Grey Man Vignettes and The Grey Man Payback and they were very disappointing. They were stories about a West Texas sheriff instead of the British spy.
I highly recommend the books written by Stansfield, but not by Curtis.

The printing is quite strange with large spaces between the paragraphs.
These are really just short stories, as the author seems to be unable to flesh out a complete novel. Worth reading but do not expect anything like what you would get reading a book from more accomplished writers. I gave it a 3 out of 5 because there was no option for 2.5 out of 5.

i loved this book! Finally an action, adventure shoot 'em up, spys, guns, fights, etc,etc that I love to read with characters over 30 yrs of age!
Great plot thats not run of the mill, great characters that aren't the usual formula but a story in the genre I love to read to escape every day life.
I only gave it 4 stars due to lack of proof reading and editing, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
E-books are an accepted format these days and I will no longer accept, spelling mistakes, context mistakes and basic punctuation mistakes in ebooks. ( Russell Blake has some great tips on his website for authors)
Well Done Mr Stansfield. Please keep writing, I hope to read more about the gentlemen soon, surely they will need to sort some of life's unfairness again soon?

I really liked DC Stanfield`s latest book The Assassin The Grey and The Surgeon. Three slightly over the hill hit men gather together to help one of the own to get revenge. It was an interesting book written from a different perspective than other "assassin" type books that I have read. In this book we have three guys trying to make a comeback and to overcome the disabilities of age to revive their past glories. As usual their is plenty of excitement and violence. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the action thriller and enjoys the anti-hero style. I hope the author does another book with these characters.

OK, if you like the genre you will enjoy the read. There are issues with the way the characters miss on security items despite their supposed reputation. Overall though I liked the idea with this mix, reminded me of similar writers Keith Thomson & Twice a Spy or Frederick Forsyth with his character in Avenger. Sure you have to suspend misbelief at times with the plot, but the story was a fun read. There's room for more adventures with these characters or adding another "member". Hope the author can build a readership.
