About the author

I was born in San Francisco. I'm the oldest of five children and enjoyed telling stories from an early age. I am a retired reading specialist. I was inspired to write children's books by my love of literature, by raising my son, and by teaching my students.

One more thing: I'm very careful about what I let my kids read. This book is exciting, but doesn't take cheap short-cuts to get there. Cox emphasizes character development and respectful treatment of others. This teacher can really write!
My 10 year old who is addicted to fairy stories right now LOVED this
*once she got past the cover lol
she even said afterwards
it is true one can not judge a book by the cover
They are so full of fun and mischief but not the intentional troublemaking kind
instead the sweet a little bit on the innocent side
I grew up loving the disney movie the Rescuers
this book kind of took me back to that time
it was a nice pace and you wanted to keep going to see how things would turn out
so fun and a different kind of story for my kids that they will certainly remember fondly for years to come
now need to go buy book one in this series
my dd is so hoping that there will be more books in this series
i never told her this was actually book 2 because she thinks you have to read first one in a series to get into them
do not think is the case in this series feels like it is a great stand alone
but i am not sure since i have not yet read the previous one
we just LOVE this book and have even read it twice now
"The day shall not be up so soon as I, To try the fair adventure of tomorrow. "--William Shakespeare
The idea of a books about rats didn't initially sound exciting, I guessed. But it turned out in an adventurous rodents story, that came to be about how two rats, named Frederick and Isbu, feel comfortably at home in fifth grade classroom pet cage. How do they get out for adventure in Mrs. Dove's domain, one may wonder. It was rather a nice read of Tasty Tales!
I felt I got gradually caught up in the adventure, of the tiny pair of mammals, hopeful, more so will the curious side of my young grandsons. Frederick and Ishbu find themselves drawn into a mystery world travel, and conquest with funny near death struggles with the big cheese, that renders geography, and history tours entertaining, with fast moving characters.
"If only the rats hadn't been locked up all night underground, away from the doors and windows--if only they had seen the ring around the moon, Frederick...remembered Miss Dove saying," Halo around the sun or moon, rain or snow is coming soon." If only they could have seen the village of Zermatt, they might have noticed the smoke..." Lessons from History.
The Tails of Frederick and Ishabu, began with The mystery of the Burmese Bandicoot, which I didn't read. I still enjoyed it, in spite of the mice icons. Its type makes it read easier, though the thick hard cover look, does not discourage my second grader, who thrives on fast action. Its short chapters make it attractive for his younger brother for reading aloud sessions.
