USA Today Bestselling Author of over 30 books in six series, Sophie Davis is a pseudonym for best friends turned bestselling co-authors. The pair met in law school and instantly bonded over their love of great books and bad horror movies. After they graduated, when one longed for the ability to read minds so she wouldn't have to study for the bar exam, they co-authored the Talented Saga, a bestselling dystopian series about mind-reading assassins that was optioned for film or television.

Their current project is the Eve of Eternals world, a multi-series Urban Fastasy universe where they write about Vampires, Wolf Shifters, and Fae in a saga of reincarnating soulmates.

The duo lives in California, spending all their time outside in the sunshine while creating wild new worlds with characters who will stay with you long after the last page. The Sophie Davis team is rounded out with two rescue dogs- ineffectual assistants with frequent social media appearances as they battle keyboards for attention.

Very cool, I loved it!

Talented takes place in a distant future 100 years after a series of catastrophic natural disasters damages underground nuclear reactors, which in turn contaminates the world's oceans. In the years following The Great Contamination, some children are born with strange genetic defects, some as simple as purple eye color others as complex as superhuman powers of the mind and body. I love the strange and wonderful skills portrayed in the book.

The world is divided between those who would accept (or perhaps just use) the gifted and those who would suppress (or exterminate) them. I found it interesting that the organization that gathers, trains and uses the talented kids is called TOXIC, not a very positive acronym for a group supposedly devoted to training and supporting the population's uniquely qualified outcasts. On the other side of the battle is the Coalition, based in the seceded western states of the USA, which is opposed to mandatory talent testing for kids and possibly advocates exterminating them entirely (a strange combination of goals). What I find interesting with these two organizations is the way Talia perceives them. She hates the Coalition and it's leader for killing her parents when she was a kid and loyally serves in TOXIC hoping for at chance a revenge. But, as the story progresses, there are hints that things aren't all that they seem. Is TOXIC really on the side of good? I love how the story keeps me guessing.

Talia is a strong, but vulnerable, character. She wants to prove herself as one of the elite Hunters, the assassin/spy division of TOXIC, but as a pledge, she struggles with the harsh realities of her calling and the fear of disappointing her powerful benefactor, the leader of the organization. I love how she has to fight for success and how she doesn't always meet the mark. It makes her seem real. I also love the romance aspect of the story and the tension that goes with it. While there is a love triangle, I think it's done in a very believable and gradual way. There is no love at first sight, and, just like a naive inexperienced girl would be, Talia is delightfully conflicted throughout.

The main supporting characters are realistic and strongly developed in such a way that I was able to form my own opinions. I found myself gradually shifting loyalties as the story progressed, and I'm certain that the author meant for that to happen. I love Talia's best friend Penny and how she draws Talia out of her shell. Erik and Henri, Talia's teammates, are fantastic. Like Talia, they are imperfect and human. They have amazing powers but also have secrets, fears and weaknesses, making them both relatable and likeable.

I find it difficult to come up with anything I didn't like other than an occasional missing word or wrong word mistake and a few oddly placed commas. Honestly, though, these were outweighed by the quality of the story and the rich world in which it takes place. I look forward to the second in the series.

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest, non-reciprocal review.

I've typically stopped writing reviews, because I read so much and a book has to really capture my attention for me to take the time to sit down and review it. Talented did just that. Well, I got Talented for free & had to immediately read the rest of the series the next day, so I'm just now writing the review. This was an excellent book. There are many YA books out there dealing with superpowers and dystopian elements, and it's easy to read through them and not really get involved, but Talented has characters that are so well developed that you can't help but get sucked in. I loved Talia, she was so tough yet also extremely naïve. She follows her heart and beliefs, even when they get her in trouble. The plot has been explained by other reviewers, so I won't expand on that part very much. Talia is an Elite-level Mind Manipulator with major juice. It was evident to me that she has much more power than she realizes, and I was anxious to find out when she would discover her full potential. And no, it's not in this book. Come on, we all know that character development takes time throughout a series. :)

However Davis as a writer, is an expert at pulling you into the story. Her characters, Eric, Henri, Talia, Mac, Penny, and Donovan all jumped off the page. Davis is also talented enough as a writer to leave some large (and some tiny) clues for readers to pick up on if they choose to. I knew exactly where the series would head, even before Talia's encounter with Ian crane (the ultimate bad guy presented in the story) but I was compelled to go out and get the next book immediately because I wanted to experience the journey with Talia and the others. For me to follow through on a series is a testament to the writer and the world they have created. I am a speed reader (reading 3-4 books a day) so I have to be completely engaged in a novel to decide whether I want to spend money to continue reading a series. The entire Talented saga did just that. Talented is a great read; it's funny, a little sad, and drew me into the world Davis created for a couple of hours until I was through with the book. I loved reading about all of the "talents" that various people had; Davis did a great job with creativity in developing these powers. She also did a good job of tying the dystopian elements in through her explanation of the war and the effects of radiation on various animals and people. I think her greatest strength is character development. I felt like each character was my own friend or foe. There were times I wanted to smack Talia for not questioning things more, and that's when I knew I had to go out and buy her next book. I had connected with the characters and I wanted to join their ongoing adventures, and find out if my own theories were correct. I wasted no time in reading Caged, and then Hunted. Now, I am dying to get my hands on Created.

Trust me, with this book being free all you have to lose is a couple of hours if you don't like it. But, I'm betting that you'll like it if you're here reading the reviews. It's an excellent read, and while the plot of the series follows a similar plot line of all of book in this genre, joining Talia and her friends in their journey is well worth the time. The rest of the series just keeps getting better and better.

Pretty good story. It kept me wanting more, which is what any author wants. Natalia got on my nerves sometimes with her lack of self-control, especially near the end. Still, want to get the next installment. Bravo author.

Summary: When Talia Lyons was just a child, her parents were murdered before her eyes. Offered a choice between accepting their fate and exacting revenge, Talia trains to become one of the country's deadliest assassins in order to kill the man responsible for their deaths: Ian Crane. Luckily, Talia was born with a gift- the ability to read and influence the minds of others. At sixteen, Talia is poised to graduate from the McDonough School for the Talented, where she learned to control her abilities. Now there is only one obstacle standing between her and the retribution she craves... Talia herself.
Her greatest asset may also be her undoing; while a formidable weapon in the field, Talia's talents prevent her from both shutting off the mental connection she shares with her questionable boyfriend and blocking out the thoughts of a beguiling fellow recruit. But Talia can't afford to have the feelings and distractions of a normal teenage girl, when her life is far from normal.
She must regain the single-minded determination that has brought her this far, or it may cost Talia her life when she finally faces Crane. And even after being molded in to a weapon of war, she'll still have to find the strength it takes to pull the trigger.
If James Bond and Sookie Stackhouse had a love child with a yearning for vengeance, her story would be TALENTED: an adventure about powerful teenagers who aren't afraid to embrace their fears and fight for what they believe in.

The Review
How have I not read this series, bad bad reviewer, I loved this book, Book 2 & 3 are both firmly ensconced in my TBR list, Talia is such a great character, I really believed I was going through everything with her, she was so kick ass when she needed to be, but she had a soft side that really touched my heart, this book has an amazing plot line, different from anything else I have read, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, The characters are well written, full of character, there were others in the book that to me really brought the book together as a whole, I love Talia's room mates, the fact that she has 2 males she is living with really made this book super funny in places, I would recommend this to everyone, it will have you laughing in so many places, I even cried in a couple of places, this was so well written, I felt Talia's pain, 5/5

I picked this book up for free in (I think) one of Amazon's holiday promotions.

It's a fast and easy read, but it also has a fairly interesting story. There were a few odd moments where I felt a bit disconnected from the story, mostly through strange word or phrasing choices, but it was overall an enjoyable read.

I'm strongly considering buying at least the first few books, since Amazon has 1-4 plus a novella bundled as a set for fairly cheap.
