Forty-Four (44 series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Last year after falling through the ice, seventeen-year-old Abby Craig woke up from death.
But she woke into a world she barely recognizes. She can’t see colors, memories have been erased, and her friends all hate her. And then there’s Jesse, who she loves, but who refuses to forgive her the one mistake she made long ago.
Just when she thinks it can’t get any worse, the visions begin. In them, she sees a faceless serial killer roaming the streets. While the police believe that there have been a lot of accidents in town lately, Abby knows differently. And she soon realizes that it’s up to her to find him.
But to stop him, she’ll have to confront more than just the killer. She’ll have to face something else that was lost in those dark waters. The truth.

Review
A FANTASTIC novel! Forty-Four was just about impossible to put down once I started. From the very beginning, there was an air of mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat... I highly recommend this fantastic novel!
The Caffeinated Diva
Everything from the setting, to the time frame, to the characters, was beautifully developed. This book is truly a gem and I highly recommend it. It literally took my breath away.
Avery's Book Review
Sinclair sucked me in like a vacuum cleaner sucks up dirt. She brings mystery, love, and friendship to the book and weaves a lovely tale.
Just Another Book Addict
IMPRESSIVE! Forty-Four is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and will take readers by storm. With so much information in such a small book it will impress readers to the detail and depth in so few pages. The conclusion will take your breath away. Don't miss you chance to check out this amazing story.
The Book Whisperer
Fantastic, edge of your seat thriller. A MUST READ! It twists you about and as soon as you think you have it all figured out, throws you for the final loop with an ending that will break the hardest heart.
Wormhole
From the Author
Those words, written by a fan, are posted in my office. Whenever I'm struggling, whenever I can't see the path in front of Abby (or me), I look up at that quote. I take the words in and try to stay true to them. I do my best to live up to them. Every day.

I had to keep guessing who the `bad guy' was, it is funny when you guess right at one point and then change, because something else was there and the `something else' that threw you off was essential to story's plot. I most enjoyed the `seemingly' small characters that were not so small characters. I applaud the author on their skill with characters and fitting them nice into an awesome plot. Many books I have read small characters get introduced then nothing more comes of them, I was pleased when this story made me think the way it did.
The ending was both sad and satisfying at the same time. I do not want to say more than that for fear of ruining the story.
This story moves quickly from the first paragraph to the last I will read this one again just to enjoy what I may have missed the first time reading it. Maybe this next time I will not stay up until the late hours trying to finish it.
My favorite character is Jesse I like the way he is written and the importance of his part in the plot to help and guide Abby.
I could definitely see this series made into a movie I would really like that. However, what I did do is contact Audible.com and requested Audible contact the publishing company to see if they were willing to turn this into an audio book, I would enjoy reading while listening.
Hope this review is not too awful, I am just too fearful of ruining a story for anyone, and this one is too good to ruin for anyone.
WOW, what an amazingly good book! I am now kicking myself for not reading this book sooner, I purchased this eBook nearly 2 years ago. The author seemed to either have personal experience with near death/dead experience, knows someone who has, or she has done an extensive amount of research on the topic. I greatly enjoyed reading this book and felt so emotionally connected I started to cry towards the end. The ending was surprisingly fulfilling and did not feel that it was a cliff hanger even though there is more to the story.
It is very sad what Abby has gone through, coming back to life after dying from crashing into the ice, not being able to see colors, and having horrible nightmares of a serial killer roaming the streets. She has a hard time fitting in in school, she can't play her beloved soccer anymore due to lack of coordination from the accident. Sheesh can this poor girl get a break for her never-ending hell? Oh wait no she can't, it gets worse. The doctor who thought that he had brought her back to life has a psycho brother that works in a pharmaceutical business for cancer drugs. This brother is actually somehow the one who was able to bring Abby back to life with some weird serum.
Abby's sister is a news reporter and and has been covering the series of weird deaths going on around town; and she just knows that they seem like suicides but she doesn't think so. Abby's nightmares are related to the "suicides" that her sister is covering and helps her find the murderer. In these nightmares Abby is able to pick up the negative energy that the serial killer has. When Abby and her sister are able to track down the killer they alert the cops and the go to confront him. They successfully confront the killer but he escapes before the cops get there and escapes. But before he makes his hasty get-away he tells Abby that he will be returning for his creating.
As aforementioned can't this poor girl get a break?
Recently, I read 44 by Jools Sinclair, and it was so compelling that I immediately bought the second book in her series.
When the book opens, the reader may think that this is just another teen angst story albeit the heroine has more than the usual real reasons for being emotional. You see, seventeen-year-old Abby Craig fell through the ice a year before the story begins, and she drowned.
With her sister, and guardian, weeping over her body in the ER, she somehow returned to life. But she's not the same Abby. She's lost bits and pieces of herself.
Even though, as I read, I was thinking "this is just another teen book," I couldn't quit reading. The author draws you in with a quietness made suspect by the dawning suspicion that something just isn't right. When Abby begins having visions, you know your suspicions aren't groundless.
That's all I'll tell you. In fact, if you want this book, don't even read the Product Description or the other reviews. Don't let anything take the edge off the story and spoil the surprise at the end.
Well done, Jools Sinclair. Well done.
The characters are likeable if a little shallow, and the plot moves along well as she begins to see visions of murders that are happening around town and she and her sister look for a suspect.
I thought the part where everyone at school suddenly disliked her after the accident was a bit odd.
The ending was a little abrupt but a sequel is on the way and we will hope the author uses it to flesh out the characters a bit more.
All in all not a bad read.
